Kalpa Vriksha Center for Performing Arts founded by Arpita Sabud in March 2022. Kalpa Vriksha stands for “Wish Fulfilling Tree” in mythology. This is Arpita’s habitat where she welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds to fulfill her wish to impart her knowledge of Odissi dance. Kalpa Vriksha’s students range from 4 years to 50+ years old. It is a close-knit group of students and parents who are guided by Arpita. Currently, the main focus at Kalpa Vriksha is Odissi dance form, however, as the center matures, it aspires to collaborate with other genres of art form.

I want to impart my knowledge of this two thousand years old ancient dance form to the younger generation of this country. Kalpa Vriksha, Center for Performing Arts is that place where I aspire to convey our cultural traditions, values, music, literature, and history through this 2000-year old Odissi dance form. Learning a classical dance form like Odissi is all-encompassing. Rigor and discipline in the training helps students build stamina and maintain physical fitness. The mind-body coordination is an essential skill to bring grace and correct form in dance. Through this dance, students will also be introduced to the age-old tradition of “Story telling” in mythology. I’m also interested to work in the future with the other genre of classical art form as well.
