KalpaVriksha, named after the mythological “Wish-Fulfilling Tree,” is a close-knit space where students and families come together to celebrate culture, music, and dance. The school is founded and led by Arpita, who personally teaches the classical Odissi dance form.
My mission is to share the beauty and depth of this two-thousand-year-old classical art form with the younger generation in this country. KalpaVriksha, Center for Performing Arts, is the space where I aspire to pass on our cultural traditions, values, music, literature, and history through the ancient and exquisite art of Odissi.
Learning a classical dance form like Odissi is a holistic experience. The rigor and discipline of training help students build stamina and maintain physical fitness. The essential mind–body coordination cultivated through practice brings grace, alignment, and precision to their movements. Through this dance, students also experience the timeless tradition of storytelling rooted in Indian mythology.
As KalpaVriksha continues to grow, I look forward to collaborating with other classical art forms and expanding the artistic possibilities we can offer to our community.
— Arpita
KalpaVriksha is a vibrant Odissi dance school based in Potomac, Maryland, welcoming students from across the DMV region—including Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Our community includes dancers from early childhood through adulthood, creating a diverse and supportive learning environment under Arpita’s guidance. Arpita is a dedicated disciple of Smt. Madhavi Mudgal and holds a Visharad Pratham diploma from Gandharva Mahavidyalay.
KalpaVriksha is also affiliated with Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-O-Sankriti Parishad, a renowned Indian cultural examination board, through which our students participate in annual evaluations and earn formal certifications.
In addition to in-person instruction, we offer online classes and proudly welcome students from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and beyond.
While Odissi is our primary focus, KalpaVriksha aspires to collaborate with other classical art forms as the center continues to grow.
Currently we offer classes for two Indian Classical instruments
